had been assassinated. at that time she put aside the process and came to atlanta to help my mother out with a funeral arrangements and then with us the children were the first couple of years. and helping my mother with the establishment of the king center. at that time my mother said maybe i want to write my own life story. she proceeded to do that and publish that in 1969 and is no longer in print. in 2004 because mother had encouraged it in 66 and she knew about it she still wanted her to complete a she said what you go ahead and complete the manuscript in 2004? of course she began to do more work. as a result a few months or a year later my mother became ill. so she couldn't really focus. my mother passed in 16 months later my sister passed so it was delayed somewhat that by 2008 and close 2009 she started completing this particular book. i had a conversation with her one day. she was working on it and she said people need to know more about coretta. martin did not make coretta. they need to know coretta king from the strong family roots, the strong family that was deeply groun

midland, atlanta, they found much worse. this bright yellow rolling sanctuary for a group of elementary school kids had become a horrific crime scene. the armed suspect police would learn had escaped with a 6-year-old boy in his hands, heading to an underground bunker on his property, holding the boy prisoner, eight feet below ground in an earthen cave stocked with supplies that could last weeks. the young witnesses telling authorities it was a raid on their school bus by a mean man determined to take a child hostage. >> he started telling him he needed a kid because of something about the law coming after him. >> reporter: police sources identify the suspect as 65-year-old jimmy lee dykes, a man who has been in trouble with the law before on charges he fired a gun at a neighbor. the boy is on medication and is said to have special needs. >> at this time, we have no reason to believe that the child has been harmed. >> reporter: police have been in contact with the gunman using a pvc pipe to communicate through. and late today made this heartbreaking request. >> pray. pray. j >> reporter

breaking news near atlanta where four children are dead after a duplex caught fire. the children ranged in age from 8 months to 7 years. we have learned a 6-year-old child survived with no serious injuries after his mother threw him from the second floor window to safety. the mother, however, was severely burned and is now recovering at an atlanta hospital. the children's grandmother managed to make it out of the home without injury. the cause of the devastating fire is under investigation. >> also new this morning, san francisco police now investigating an overnight shooting and stabbing in a neighborhood. the stabbing happened before 3:15 this morning on connecticut street. the victim was stabbed in the chest but is expected to survive. nobody so far is under arrest. almost two hours earlier police responded to a shooting down the street near connecticut and 25th. the victim was shot in the foot. he's now in the hospital. he is expected to survive. so far no suspects have been arrested. >> 6:04. maritime officials want regulations for ships moving through the bay after an oil t
